Xpeditions

C3 worked with Gareth Stevens Publishing to produce, in a two month period, over 180 teacher guides to complement reading materials designed to supplement Harcourt School Publishing’s “Mathematics Concept Readers” publications for grades K–6.  Each guide was developed with tiered versions for student comprehension abilities and included:

•teacher resources on content;

•student prerequisite skill needs; and,

•activities for student comprehension.

C3 managed the manuscript writing, layout design and production, and proofing and editing.  The project plan and schedule included:

•peer review;

•spiraling client review; and

•revisions based on changes to the reader content due to simultaneous development of the readers by the client.

C3 managed a staff of 10 writers, 5 designers and two editors for this project, with all guides delivered on schedule and within budget.

C3 was hired by JASON to align resources to state standards, develop lessons, and provide expert panel review of the program’s online courses.  The highlighted projects demonstrate C3’s expertise in the areas of content alignment with learning standards and teacher resource materials development.

JASON Mission Center Learning Objects HTML Mark-Up: C3 assisted in the launch of the JASON Project’s “JASON Mission Center,” an online gateway for teaching materials and resources for its Operation: Monster Storms curriculum. C3 provided:

*html mark-up for approximately 200 learning objects (including online labs, briefing articles, charts and images, and other resources)

*cataloging of the resources with required metadata

*alignment of content to National Science Education Standards, Ohio Science Content Standards, and Department of Defense Science Content Standards.

C3 organized a work plan and schedule to complete all tasks in one month, while including two rounds of client review.

Independent Review of Teacher Materials:  C3 was contracted to review the online and print teacher resources accompanying JASON’s curriculum Operation: Monster Storms.  C3 provided science education SME review of the quality and comprehensiveness of teacher support materials in the areas of teacher tips, strategies, extensions, interdisciplinary connections, teaching with inquiry, and authentic assessment.

Alignment and Cataloging of Content Resources: C3 has been contracted on a repeat basis to catalog JASON student and teacher resources and align them to 49 of 50 states’ science learning standards.  C3 developed the alignment spreadsheets and used JASON’s online VLE cataloging tool to catalog and align the resources.  Over a period of three years, C3 aligned hundreds of learning objects to thousands of science standards.

Lessons and Activity Development

C3 was selected to write lessons and activities in support of National Geographic priorities and features including:

March of the Penguins: Academy-Award winning movie's classroom curricula

Tutanhkamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs: museum and online exhibitions

National Geographic’s Explorers in Residence program: providing high school students with access to the inner-workings and research priorities of explorers in a variety of fields, including oceanography, marine biology, archaeology, photography, and paleoanthropology

In addition, C3 has created multiple lessons and activities in the areas of current societal issues such as:

The Genographic Project:  Supporting the science behind human migration and genetic markers; these lessons made authentic connections between the seemingly abstract science of the project and ideas/themes students can relate to at every age.

Exploring the Chesapeake: Then and Now: C3 created lessons on both the historical and scientific/environmental issues surrounding the Chesapeake Bay.

Geotourism: These lessons highlight the concept of geotourism and its benefits by providing students with real-world examples and authentic project assignments for understanding and explaining the concept.

C3 developed a cost-effective approach to delivering lessons and activities appropriate for multiple grade and skill levels.  C3 responsibilities included lesson research, writing, editing, and HTML mark-up in the client database.
